Slurry making is an important step in the production of ceramics. The quality of the slurry has a great influence on the next procedure.Now, ceramic raw materials, including clay, feldspar, bauxite, quartz and so on, have been processed in factory, so the way of ceramic slurry making has been transferred from break-grind to mix-grind. Traditional slurry making machine has the high energy consumption, the low efficiency and causes environment pollution, and it is hard to improve. The paper, based on ceramic raw material change in China, analyzed the reason why it has a low efficiency, and introduced a new grinding equipment which has high efficiency and low energy consumption.As to the features of diversified grinding equipments on the market, this paper chooses submersible basket mill which has been widely used in paint industry, and test its high efficiency and analyze problems caused. Through improving it's structure, a new machine, internal recycling mill, which adapts to ceramic material grinding, and new technology has been designed. And a series of industry tests proved that internal recycling mill has stable capability, high efficiency which is ten times more than ball mill, and low energy consumption which does not reach 30 percent of ball mill. The slurry making is well-distributed and uniformity, flexural strength of the product reached a higher standard, and glaze has been improved.Through orthogonal test of grinding alumina power used in laboratory, different equipment parameters effect on grinding progress has been analyzed. Through linear regression method, mathematic relation has been simulated and the best technology parameter has been gained. Furthermore, a multi-stage grinding process route has been put forward.Based on situation of Hunan electric ceramics factory, Zhuzhou spark plug factory and Hualian special ceramics factory, three plans of ceramics slurry making with the internal recycling mill as main equipment were designed. The new slurry making equipment can connect other technologies and equipments, which has high efficiency and energy-saving and high output, easy to realize automation. It has good prospects of application and extension in ceramic industry. The multi-stage internal recycling mill has been put to use in Hualian special ceramics factory in September, 2006.
