Light scatting material is widely used in the fields like traffic sign, advertisement and decoration at present; it is one of the hot-spot issues in material research field. The thesis makes researches into taking the pre-polymer of methyl methacrylate (Pr-MMA) as light scattering substance, and polystyrene (PS) as matrix to make organic light scattering materials. Due to the imperfect ratio of polymerization of methyl methacrylate, by taking advantage of the characteristic of a-hydroxylethyl ferrocene and Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) of ratio improving, the thesis treat it as composite initiators to accelerate this progress of preparation of Pr-MMA, and achieve the organic light scattering materials taking PS as matrix at last. The result indicates that the ratio of polymerization of MMA became fast after adding into a-hydroxylethyl ferrocene and BPO.Being as an additive, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) can improve defects of PS/Pr-MMA organic light scattering materials, such as low surface hardness, great brittleness, craze and crack etc., due to the characteristic mentioned above, the thesis makes deep research into preparations of the PS/Pr-MMA light scattering materials adding SBR by pre-polymerization and in-situ polymerization. The result indicates that synergistic effect of the Pr-MMA and SBR on the transmittrance and haze of PS/Pr-MMA organic light scattering materials can be presented by adding them synchronously. As the content of Pr-MMA and SBR increasing, the haze of material is oscillating-variation. The haze appears intensive oscillating-variation as the content of Pr-MMA increaseing, while the transmittance presents indistinct variation as the content of SBR increased. Based on the experiment, the relative refraction index adding Pr-MMA and SBR and the effect of the scatterer size on the effective scattering capability of this light scatting material are simulated with MATLAB. The results of simulation and experiment are consistent. Nevertheless, the theory on oscillating-variation mechanics should be investigated deeply in the future. The structure and capability of the organic light scatting materials are tested and analyzed by utilizing scanning electron microscope (SEM) and fourier transform infra-red spectrometric analyzer (FTIR). The result of SEM shows that the cross section of the PS/Pr-MMA material presents brittle fracture, while after adding into SBR, some holes scatting in the matrix homogeneously and series fold are formed. The result of FTIR test indicates that there are no distinct variations of waves of specific absorption peak, while intension of light absorption decreases. In general, for synergistic effect of Pr-MMA and SBR on the transmittrance and haze, the appropriate quantity of Pr-MMA and SBR adding into PS/Pr-MMA light scattering material can bring about better effectiveness of transmittance and haze. In a word, not only transmittance but haze of PS/Pr-MMA light scattering material can both present the satisfied effect, and the materials made by this experiment with better capability can be used widely in many fields.
