A large amount of wastewater is produced in chemical fiber industry each year. The conventional treatment technologies are not effective and economical for the treatment of the chemical fiber wastewater. Advanced technologies with high efficiency and economics need to be developed imperatively for the treatment and reuse of the wastewater from chemical fiber industry. This paper researched and developed the technologies for the treatment and reuse of air-cooling wastewater from glue fiber workshop through membrane separation technique, and a demonstration project with a capacity of 1200t/d was also constructed based on the results of small scale tests. The wastewater was filtrated with mechanical filter and cartridge filter firstly; the reverse osmosis membrane separation technique was used to treat the pretreated wastewater. The permeate of the reverse osmosis could be reused directly with the post treatment such as degasification. The chemicals needed to be added in the process flow were also studied and determined.The process flowsheet of the demonstration project of the reuse of air-cooling wastewater through membrane technique was determined based on the small-scale testing and other requirements of the project. The unit operation equipments including the feed wastewater storage pond, feed pressure device, germicide adding device, flocculants and flocculation assistant agents adding system, mechanical filter, reducing agent and antiscalent adding system, acid adding system, cartridge filter, chemical cleaning system, degasification tower, reverse osmosis device, and controlling system etc., were designed and selected in the design and construction process of the demonstration project. The demonstration project was constructed and plunged into running successfully. The performance data of the six reverse osmosis devices of the demonstration project were recorded and analyzed; the dosages of the chemicals added in the treatment process were tested and adjusted for the determination of the optimum value. The experiments of chemical cleaning were conducted on the five reverse osmosis devices of the whole wastewater reuse system for determination the cleaning process flow and the optimal cleaning agents.The results of the small scale tests and the demonstration project have shown that the membrane separation technique could be used to treat the air-cooling wastewater from glue fiber workshop successfully. The advanced method based on membrane technique was of great water-saving,social and environmental benefits. It would also play an important role in promoting the development of chemical fiber industry, developing cleanliness manufacture techniques of other fields, and active contribution to the sustaining development of the supporting industry of national economy.
