The design of extrusion die is very important in the extrusion molding technology and it has important influence on product quality, production efficiency and other factors. Therefore, it is very important to study the extrusion die design. By the numerical analysis of the plastic extrusion process, the extrusion flow laws can be found. The optimal design of extrusion die based on the feedback information of the numerical analysis results has important theoretic and practical meaning to the extrusion die design.In this paper the optimization mathematics model was established based on the function partition of the extrusion L die runner structure. In the model, the premise was the three-dimensional parameterized model of the runner. The design variables (including physical parameters of material and extrusion process parameters) were the main structure parameters of each function domain of the die. The objective function was the mean square-deviation of the average flow velocity of each sub-field of product section at extrusion die exit. The purpose that is to optimize the structure parameters of extrusion die runner to make the flow balance was achieved by adopting different optimal tools based on different research intentions. The proposed method has stronger adaptability and practicability by integrating finite element analysis and optimal design theory.There are many parameters to influence the product in the design of extrusion die and the variable hardly describe by a function. For the current stage among the various kinds of optimization question, how optimum to solve, and how to prevent from during the process of producing and solving optimally appearing such as some to solve while being optimum, such questions as the feasible convergence property that solves, etc, is some very important problems that the project is optimized, demanding prompt solution. And happen to well solve these problems as the genetic algorithm, its reason lies in the genetic algorithm is a kind of powerful one, use the extensive random search to optimize technology, the problem difficult to solve by a lot of traditional methods is very effective. In this paper the extrusion die optimized using the genetic algorithm and the fitness of each individual was evaluated by finite element method ANSYS.
