More than 600 thousand tones of cornstarch are produced each year in Jilin province. Usually cornstarch manufacturers discharge a large amount of wastewater , and the wastewater is characterized by high concentration of COD and BOD, high N and P , high BOD/COD ,high S and low PH value. Discharging it directly will be harmful to our environment . How to process the cornstarch wastewater is still a big problem encountered in wastewater treatment industry .Based on review of the foreign and domestic treatment processes of cornstarch wastewater , the author bring forward multi—stage hydrolytic—aerobic process to treat moderate—high concentration cornstarch wastewater .The following results were obtained:(1) It is available of treatment of cornstarch wastewater by multi—stage hydrolytic—aerobic process. More than 97.3%COD and 98.2%BOD were removed from wastewater at given COD concentration of influent and total hydrolytic retention time (HRT) .Quality of the effluent of the process is up to the national discharge standard of level one or level two . The process has the advantages of low construction cost and running cost and running cost , high resistibility to loading changes and easy operation etc.(2) After investigation of factors affected the process , it can be concluded that : increasing temperature will make the process more effective ; the suitable HRT is varied with influent COD concentration.(3) Hydrolytic phases of multi—stage hydrolytic—aerobic process has the ability to raise the biodegradation of wastewater . When wastewater flows through it, protein and organic phosphorus can be transformed into NH4+,PO43-,this makes the following aerobic process go on easily.
