High-quality quartz is in great demand in China, and the elimination of impuritiesin quartz raw materials is of the crucial importance to improve the quality of quartzglass. It is a priority task for the chemical works preparing the quartz raw materials inChina to research the purification methods to improve the quality of quartz rawmaterials. The mixed solution of sodium nitrate and aluminium nitrate is added to thequartz raw materials, and then the mixture, is. roasted at high temperature, whichtransfers the impurities in the quartz into other materials that can easily dissolve in acidor water. So the resultant materials and quartz can be separated easily. Therefore, we canprepare the high-purity quartz raw materials from the low-quality ores. This paperinvestigates the adulteration and purification of quartz raw materials. In the presentinvestigation, the types of doped matters, concentrations and the sequence of the dopedmatters are optimized, and the roasting temperature and the duration time are researchedtoo. The pilot production of pure quartz was achieved in our experiments in the end. Thetotal content of 13 major impurities (Al, B, Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Ti)in the pilot production is less than 20×10-6, which reaches the standard for quartz rawmaterials of the Unimin Corp., USA.
