Silk is the traditional treasure of our country, and many things such as ancientcultural relic and modern consumables are all related with it. However as one proteinmaterial, there exsit several serious influences on the protection of ancient silk and the useof modern silk textiles for some disadvantages of yellowing and aging, and so on. So it isan important to study on the subject aging characteristics and mechanism of silk forarchaeologist and many researchers. In order to understand the aging characteristic of silk, the method of simulating aging was performed on modern silk fiber, and the aging rule ofsilk fiber was investigated in the thesis. Here three kinds of artificial aging methods(hydrolyzing aging, heat aging andburying in soil aging) are adopted to deal with silk fibres. And in this way, raw silk fiber, degummed B. mori silk fiber, chitosan-treated B. mori silk fiber and plant dyestuff-dyed silkfiber were the subjects for the research. Structure and properties of silk fibers before andafter aging treatment were studied. The results show that the phenomena of weight lossand yellowing of silk fibers are observed after aging. And eroding stripes apppeared on thesurface of silk fiber by different kinds of aging method. Among the three kinds of agingmethod, as for effect on silk fiber, the burying in soil aging is the most serious one, theheating aging also serious and the hydrolyzing aging is gentle. Compared with originaldegummed silk fiber, the chitosan-treated silk fiber aged seriously during the heat aging. This research provide not only the theory for anti-aging of ancient silk product, butalso the guidence for the use and protection for modern silk products.
