The domestic unsaturated polyester resin (briefly named UPR) is produced by PA-MA-EG with styrene curing in recent years. But the price of PA is more expensive for lowering the unsaturated polyester resin production cost and adopting dicyclopentadiene (briefly named DCPD) to replace parts of PA when the unsaturated polyester resin is produced. Because the price of DCPD is half of PA, we can reduce the unsaturated polyester resin production cost clearly.Hhydroly-addition method is adopted to manufacture DCPD modified UPR in this text. We studied the influence of DCPD modified UPR to FRP products on mechanical function, physical and chemical function .The experiment results show that the production cost to manufacture DCPD modified UPR with hydroly-addition method is lower than to manufacture common UPR with conventional technical method clearly. The cost of the raw material of UPR also lowers obviously. At the same time, a lot of functions of FRP products are improved obviously, such as heat distorting temperature of casting, tensile strength, bending break strength, impact flexibility, corrosion resistance, electrical property and so on. We also study DCPD purity and quantity how to influence of resin function. The experiment shows that DCPD purity is no influence to experiment, and the part of the low boiling point can come out from the partial condenser with water, and not exist in the resin as the temperature increases; but the polyester molecular weight decreases, and the resin viscosity reduces as the DCPD quantity increases.
