Plastic polydicyclopentadiene (called PDCPD for short) is possessed of excellent mechanical, physical and chemical properties, and it has a broad application to machinery, construction and sports-facilities. The technique that PDCPD is generated by reaction injection molding of dicyclopentadiene (called DCPD for short) is still in its infancy in China, so there are many problems about product quality. Combined with the production process of certain type engine hood, the product process and mold technology is researched, and CAE software is adopted to help simulation. The main research contents are as follows:(1) Combining with the quality of products in the process of production, the common quality problems how to affect product function and production efficiency is analysed, and the cause of quality defects is explored, then the summarization that the product quality can be improved from process and mold aspects is gained.(2) By applying Moldflow software to simulate the filling-mold process of the DCPD flow, the generation theory of the defects in the parts has been probed into, and according to the simulation results the structure of the part, mold and process parameters are optimized to improve the products quality.(3) According to the material properties of DCPD, the material of the mold and produce process are discussed, and the structure design problems such as mold surface, flash, enclosed structures, gas vent, gate system and so on are solved.(4) The quality of products is directly determined by mold temperature during reaction process, at the same time a lot quantity of heat is liberated, so product quality and efficiency are seriously affected by the adjustment of mold temperature. The mold-temperature-adjustment pipes is simulated and optimized by Moldflow software and the result is applied in the production.(5) The process of engine hood and mold structure are optimized, and they are put to test through DCPD-RIM process system, and good result is gained.
