ABSTRACT The problem of indoor air pollution caused by house decoration is getting more and more serious.As a result,the investigation and research of status quo of indoor air quality must be strengthened so as to find out the general characteristic and causes,providing scientific basis for the management and control of the pollution.Based on the investigation of house decoration and indoor air pollution,this paper summarizes the general characteristic of indoor air pollution in Pingdingshan city:the indoor formaldehyde concentration in 85%or more newly decorated houses exceeds the requirements of standard and the benzol concentration in a minority of those houses (around 20%)exceeds the requirements of standard,which indicates that the formaldehyde is the main indoor pollutant.On basis of research of daily and annual changing rules of the main indoor pollutant i.e.formaldehyde,this paper bears the following fruits:the finding of the peak value of indoor formaldehyde concentration and each corresponding time to the daily average value, which locates the appropriate time to measure the indoor pollutant;the discovery of the fact that the average value of the indoor formaldehyde concentration in summer is higher than those of other three seasons and even ten times higher than that of winter;concluding that temperature is the main cause influencing the release of formaldehyde and the concentration of formaldehyde fluctuates at the rate of 5%—10%corresponding to the fluctuation of temperature at 1℃;suggestion of the best time for decoration i.e.summer for the drive of high temperature to the quick release of formaldehyde;indication of safer time for moving-in i.e.four to five months after the decoration.Finally,the paper,based on fruits of research above stated,put forward measures of controlling indoor air pollution from dimensions of air purification and control of pollutant source and ventilate.
