The network of the coordination polymers is formed by the ligands with their owngeometry characters and metal cation. They decide to the shape of the coordinationpolymers together. Because of their various configution, we can synthesize differentcoordination polymers with novel structure in different condition, especially,supramolecular isomers, catenanes, rotaxanes, pseudocatenate/rotaxanes . So it is verysignificant that we choose flexible ligands to synthesize coordination polymers.In the work, we reported eleven coordination polymers formed using flexible ligands1,4-bis(imidazole-1-yl)butane(bimb), the second ligands (KSCN, KNCO, NaN3,NaN(CN)2(Na[dca])) with transition metal cations Cd(â…¡), Mn(â…¡), Co(â…¡), and, namely,[Cd(bimb)2(NCS)2]n (1), [Cd(bimb)2(NCO)2]n (2), [Cd(bimb)(dca)2]n (3),[Cd(bimb)(N3)2]n (4), {[Cd(bimb)3](ClO4)2}n (5), {[Cd(bimb)3](PF6)2}n (6),[Mn(bimb)2(NCS)2]n (7), [Mn(bimb)2(dca)2]n (8), [Mn(bimb)2(N3)2]n (9),[Co(NCS)2(bimb)2]n (10) and {[Co(dca)2(bimb)2](CH3OH)}n (11).They have beensynthesized and characterized by elementary analyses, IR, and X-ray diffraction analyses,thermogravimetric analysis and luminescent of part of them.We synthesized eleven coordination polymers with different structures using similarsynthetic ways, different solvents and different salts. In eleven coordination polymers, 1, 7,8 and 10 are double-stranded chains,the metal atoms are bridged by four bimb molecules toform a double-stranded chain containing 22-membered rings M2(bimb)2, 2, 9 and 11 aretwo-dimensional (4,4)-networks. The network contain square-grids (44-membered rings)M4(bimb)4, 3, 4, 5, 6 are three-dimensional networks and 5 is three-dimensionalpseudocatenate.We found that the syntheses and configutions of the coordination polymers are related to the capability of the ligand, metal cations and counteractive anions in research of thebefore-mentioned polymers. We hope we can synthesize novel polymers with uniquecharacters by changing the before-mentioned factors.
