The developing of the continuous casting needs higher level of the temperature and constitutes of molten steel flow. As an important method, the tundishes must counterpoise the temperature and constitutes of molten steel flow, eliminate impurity and clean it. In order to do that, many enterprises regard it as an effective method of purifying the molten steel flow, and design myriad dam and weir in tundishes. But with the unreasonable design, the tundishes effect is really imperfect. In the paper, a famous computational fluid dynamics software has been adopted. A numerical model to describe three-dimensional turbulent flow in continuous casting tundishes has been developed by choosing a modificatory turbulent model as Navier-Stokes and k ?ε. Numerical calculations have been performed to study the characteristics of flow in tundishes without/with flow control, and the reasonability of the design has been discussed. The results of velocity field and the pressure field show that double dam can improve the effect of tundishes greatly. In the other hand, according to similar theory, hydraulic simulation also has been put up. Having been tested by PHOENICS, hydraulic simulation shows obvious results, which are easier to study. And the results should be tested by PHOENICS, too.During the simulation, rationality of the molten steel flow field has been discussed. At last, a primary optimized plan has been put forward. The final results, which was confirmed by technical test, can change the molten steel flow field in tundishes efficiently, prolong the average standing time, improve inclusion removal and guide the production of continuous casting.
