Mould project design is the key to ensure the integral optimization structure of mould, the coordination function between the parts, the facilitation for manufacture, the success of debugging and running and reliability of the process moulding productions. For plastic part structures in different complex degrees, how to gain the reasonable mould design project in short time is the core content about modern mould design technology research. As the advanced mould technology in 21st century, intelligent design raises researchers to pay attention around the world. Researching the mould intelligent design technology has important sense to improve design quality, shorten manufacture time and promote development of mould technology.Aiming at the characteristics of injection mould project design and using object-oriented programming language VC++ and data-base technology on the open platform of AutoCAD, the intelligent realization technology and methods for mould project design are researched by building the intelligent design system on multi-agent with DAI technology, RBR and CBR. The concept of general agent template is come up on the basis of study on the inside structure of the agent, and structures of knowledge agent and function agent are built by extending function of the template. The multi-agent technology is adopted, while autonomous decision-making, cooperation and concurrent design of the agents are realized with distributed control instead of centralized control method. During design process, layout representation method and generative mechanism inside agents are analysed and tactic of constraints propagating is used to dispel conflicts among agents when necessary. The mechanism of promise and communication between different agents are investigated, and for function module states, the transformation principle that is needed while the layout is being executed is studied subsequently. Inside knowledge agents, as CBR is the chief measure while RBR the subsidiary one, the similar case is matched and modified, and structure design is realized. The generalized distances between function structures of mould are evaluated synthetically by building objective function of mould design quality, and according to the evaluation, optimization suggestions for general mould project are given to make it perfect.Finally, the intelligent design method and process for mould project are shown by using the intelligent design technology researched and the confect box cover that as the case. The design result proves that the method of mould project intelligent design, which with the distributed control measure on multi-agent, RBR, CBR and optimization tactic on integrating generalized distances between function structures of mould, is feasible and the gained mould design project is correct and reasonable.
