The new type of roving machine motion control system makes use of PLC control technology and the four motors are driven by frequency converters connected with PROFIBUS. Four motors separately drive the four main parts in system, which are flyer, roller, bobbin and carriage. Photoelectric encoder is applied in the system to feedback the motor speed in order to make the close loop control. Elimination of up and down cone drums and forming device simplify the mechanical architecture a lot. Meanwhile, the four main parts are driven by the motors separately so the whole speed of machine is enhanced and the working efficiency and operation capability are increased a lot. Due to the mechanical architecture simplification, difficulty in the four motor coordinated synchronization control comes up. This paper will give an detail research in this issue from software and hardware aspects.Hardware aspect: the characteristic in low frequency of frequency converter play an important role in the synchronization in start and stop period. So we apply the Schneider ATV71 frequency converter to fulfill the need. It has a great performance in low frequency. Unfortunately, ATV71 are not capable for PROFIBUS since it only has a MODBUS interface. This paper gives the communication solution of this issue.Software aspect: synchronized winding model is discussed. The model is the basement of programming. Meanwhile, self-study cone model is established in order to make the system's adaption much more flexible to different working environment. As to the algorithm of close loop, we introduce the subsection average PID algorithm with the two-dimension filter according to different need in different period of working. The above makes a guarantee of the coordinated synchronization and fulfill the technical necessity.The software design is illustrated in detail in the last part. The whole software concludes PLC control program and HMI design. Through the kind of research in software and hardware aspects, the new type of roving machine motion control system gets a very good synchronization performance and could product roving of high quality efficiently.
