Along with the application of the railway security, heavy load, speed increasing and high speed plan, the railway braking material becomes the important part of the railway locomotive and vehicle system, relating to the railway transportation security and cost. The article aims at the condition and development requirement of the new type high friction brake block, being based on amount of application condition, looking up and analyzing domestic and abroad literature, studying on theory and test, setting up a composite scientific evaluation system on railway braking material. It makes great sense to estimate the quality of the braking material and avoids the heat damage to the reel, guiding the recipe and process study and meeting the transportation requirement as well as improving the economy benefit.The article studies and researches on the following aspects:By means of bench test, the article quantificationally studies the effect on friction and abrasion characteristics due to different heat effect, pressure, velocity as well as friction surface and demonstrates the friction surface and characteristics with the advanced test measures such as TGA,XPS,SEM. The law that test condition to the composite braking material characteristic was found. The reason for the friction coefficient fluctuation was explained by macromolecule heat lag theory and the surface film theory was introduced to the study on composite material as well as the revolution model was set up.The system studied on metal stud, abnormal grid and heat crack as well as analysis of the phenomena condition and mechanism. The measure to reduce and avoid the damage was advanced. Test procedure and equipment to rapidly and efficiently pre-test all type of heat damage was designed and determined.Based on the study on characteristics of the composite braking material and the heat damage feature, considering the railway transportation condition, the high friction composite brake block evaluation system is advanced. The principle that recipe and test must obey is standardized so that the standard is more close to the reality and integrated into the international one.A conclusion to the whole article is made. In the same time, the proceeding study is expected.
