Since the braking performance is basically relied on car tires, how to improve the braking efficiency of the tire is particularly important. In addition, Due to the implementation of the new tire technical regulations in Europe, it is imperative to engage on the tire braking performance research in order to cater into the requirements of the regulation if entering the Europe markets. The real road test and computational simulation using FEM were included in this research. Meanwhile, with the effort to design the tires with excellent braking performance, the influence of different tire material and pattern structures on braking characters was also discussed.Firstly, the finite element model of the tire was set up using the HYPERMESH software. The complex pattern and other tire body part was meshed separately and then tied together. As for the material, the rubber was modeled as YEOH hyperelastic type and the reinforcement part was modeled using REBAR element. Then the process of inflation and loading caused by car weight was simulated via implicit FEM analysis. Through the comparison of simulation and experimental results regarding the tire radial stiffness, the FE Model of tires was validated. The discretization analysis of braking process mentioned in this paper was introduced firstly by J.R.Cho in South Korea's Pusan National University. Based on assumption that the consumption of vehicle kinetic energy is equal to the summation of friction loss on disc pad and tire, The braking model with three different type of tread material had been constructed and analyzed using ABAQUS software, variation of tire ground imprinted, friction loss rate on disc pad and tire, brake torque and wheel cylinder pressure with different braking velocity are analyzed, the braking time and braking distance were obtained at last. Then in XIANGFAN comprehensive experimental base, the above three kinds of tire braking performance on dry pavement was tested, The braking distance, brake pedal force, braking time parameters had been obtained. Then compared with the experimental results, Validity and accuracy braking model was obtained. From that the impacts of tire tread materials on braking performance of dry pavement were discussed. Finally, in order to give some suggestions for high braking performance design, we have researched the influence of changing the angle of belt cord layer, the width of belt cord layer, and thickness of the sidewall on the braking performance.
