As people living standard unceasing enhancement,the bicycle sports competition is more and more popular with people.But the research on bicycle brake friction material is only staying in rubber material,and the performance of friction material is not stable.Therefore,looking for a new friction material has become a top proposition of priority now.In this paper,carbon fibers reinforced the copper graphite composite friction material with powder metallurgy.Microstructure and properties of the carbon fiber and composite friction material were studied by SEM observation,XRD analysis,physical and mechanical properties measurement,and research friction properties of composite materials.The results showed that:1.The surface organic plastic of carbon fiber could be completely removed by hot air oxidation and acetone immersion methods,carbon fiber with concentrated nitric acid for roughening could effectively increase the surface area of carbon fibers and surface roughness.The surface of carbon fiber was coated with copper by electroless plating,and the coating was complete.2.In a word,the content of the friction and wear brake lining with the optimum performance we have obtained in the test is 60% Cu,6% Sn,13% C,3% MoS2,3% Fe,3% Ti,2% Kaolin,3% Zircon powder,3% Feldspar powder,2% Aluminum silicate,2% Vermiculite which were preparation by hot pressing sintering.The organization of friction material was uniform,the density was reached 4.169 g/cm3,the hardness was up to 19.15 HB.3.The coefficient of friction material was increased with the rising of temperature from 0.23 to 0.42.Abrasive wear was a mainly way of wear at room temperature which the wear loss was 0.08 mg/min.Adhesive wear was a mainly way of wear at 200 ? which wear loss was 0.12 mg/min.The friction performance of friction material could reach the national standards.4.Copper graphite composite friction material had no obvious whistlers with braking which loading under the load of 75 kg force,in the speed of 15 to 25 km/h speed under braking.
