The history of outdoor furniture can be traced back to the simple primitive society. Those stone tables and stone stools are the earliest outdoor furniture. With the progress of the times and the development of outdoor furniture to a higher level, it riches more and more types, and not only be used into a more extensive fields, but also played a more functional, one of which is to satisfy the people's desire and the keen to leisure life. We will call this type of outdoor furniture to the leisure outdoor furniture. However, producing and designing leisure outdoor furniture were lack of theoretical guidance. This paper makes a system research to leisure outdoor furniture comprehensive using of various methods in total of six parts with concrete results follows:The 1st chapter introduced analysis of the status of leisure outdoor furniture that develops at domestic and abroad, including the reasons of the forming of the leisure outdoor furniture market at domestic and abroad; these factors constitute a prerequisite and platform to this paper.The 2nd chapter introduced the basic theoretical basis for this article, including the basic concept of furniture, outdoor furniture and leisure outdoor furniture, and the development history of outdoor furniture. Categories of outdoor leisure furniture are also discussed, and respective concept and characteristic of each category were elaborated. These contents are the foundations of research on outdoor leisure furniture design.The 3rd chapter introduced summarization of the principles and requirements of the outdoor leisure furniture design, including those fundamental principles applied to the design of most of leisure outdoor furniture, specific design principles and requirements for outdoor leisure furniture in different places, that is, public outdoor recreation chairs and stools, outdoor dining furniture, and those which are portable for tourism, and courtyard outdoor furniture.The 4th Chapter introduced a large number of outdoor leisure furniture from material aspect, and generalize characteristics of modern furniture's material. Types of the material include wood, metal, plastic, rattan, bamboo, stone and concrete, etc.The 5th chapter started from introduction of craft and the surface treatment, and thorough study and investigation on the spot of the metal production technique and the production process of wood anticorrosion, a generalized depiction was made about technique of production of outdoors leisure furniture, which made use of currently the most widespread used material of lumber, metal, plastic, and rattan.The 6th chapter is case analysis on outdoors leisure furniture, including that of Dedon Corporation's classical products and present situation analysis on outdoors leisure furniture stood in Nanjing Forestry University's campus.
