The Micro-EDM has insurmountable advantages in modern industry. At present, most of the Low Speed WEDM machines have four degree-of-freedom (DOF), so the application of this kind of machine has been restricted greatly. In order to solve this problem, the author carried out the study by using a multifunctional five DOF EDM machine, funded by Beijing Natural Science Foundation.NC technology develops very fast and now it has developed to the sixth generation which is based on Personal Computer (PC). Based on the knowledge of the history and trend of NC develop, the author choose PC+NC framework as the basic frame to develop NC system. In order to actualize precision machining, it's necessary to improve the NC cutter compensation function. In this article, cutter compensation function is inserted to the decode module. After decoding the G code, the program will progress the cutter compensation in terms of the former G code and the later G code. With the improved cutter compensation function, the cutter compensation experiment is conducted to verify the program. Meanwhile, since interpolation is the most basic and most important function for a NC machine, in this article, the author firstly develops the line interpolation function. Then on the basis of line interpolation function, circular interpolation function is developed. In the end an experiment of circular interpolation is processed.With the improved NC system and aiming at the hotspot of the machining technics, an experiment of micro-electrode array machining is carried out to disclose the influencing factors in the machining progress. In the end, the 5×5 micro-electrode array in which the cross section of each element is 40μm×40μm and its length is 1mm is manufactured. As to the other hotspot of machining technics, mirror electro-discharge machining is progressed using RC pulse generator and the mirror surface has been reached with surface roughness R_a49nm.
