| Rotating packed bed (RPB), as a novel gas-liquid mass transfer device, has many high qualities which include larger mass transfer efficiency, lower liquid hold-up, smaller size, shorter residence time and higher micromixing efficiency. On the basis of these benefits, the RPB has been used widely in absorption, distillation, extracting, flue gas desulfurization and synthesis of nano-particles. According to the literatures, the developments on RPB in theory and application researched are clarified in this paper.In the application process of RPB made of metal material to industry, with the increase of feedstock and enhance of separation, the volume of RPB will become bigger that will result in the contradiction between strength and weight in the rotor which was the core component. The intensity of rotor can be stretched by increasing the surrounding thickening and bold, which will bring on the weight of the rotor increasing, lead to the strength of shaft decrease and the power of rotating increase. How to make the rotor light to meet the intensity, reduce costs and long-term stable operation is the key problem for RPB, which have the advantage RPB for large-scale industrialization.Through theory analysis, the structure of counter-current high gravity rotating packed bed was optimized. The time and quantity of liquid in RPB was shorten by adding piece for preventing liquid rotating with rotor. RPMMA was used to make the RPB's shell and the integrated design was done, which not only can make the manufacturing, installing and disassembly for RPB easier than original, but also make the flow state of fluid in rotating packed bed observed directly; Nylon 1010 was adopted to make the rotor, which can decrease the weight of rotor and twisting force of shaft, that will benefit for instability of rotor in rotating. The weight of RPB reducing to 1/4 and the cost and running costs deduced to 3/5 than the original can be realize by plastic processing components used to replace most of the original steel parts.Hydraulic and mass-transfer experiments were done in this paper. The conclusions show that the RPB structure optimized has the characteristics of higher balance of performance, stability operations, and hydraulic and mass-transfer quality.In a word, the optimized RPB has the virtue in costs of equipment and run, which expands the application field for it in industrialization. |
