Nowadays, open architecture CNC systems are becoming one of the mostimportant directions of CNC technology. The research purpose of open CNC systemsis to build a modular, reconfigurable and expandable architecture of CNC systems to improve the system's flexibility,and enable the systems to be re-developed .As aresult, CNC systems can be responsive to the market quickly and economically.With the development of international open CNC projects, more atention is paidto open CNC at home. But relative researches are still at the stage of beginning. Inthis paper,some key aspects and technology on the design of open architecture CNC systems are researched,including the analysis of open architecture system,openhardware structure design,software modeling and developing, curve interpolationtechnology in motion control, etc.Follwing are the main work and results:1) Open architecture CNC systems are investigated,some principles and aconcept model for open architecture systems are proposed which can beused as the guidance of detailed design of software. Definition of NCsoftware IC is given.2) In system hardware architecture,Pc is the base platform,With a 4-axismotion control board, step servo motor and theirs corresponding drivers, asystem configuration is constructed. This constructing method directly usesPC architecture, combining formed NC production,fully embodied thecharacters of multi-module and economy. This method is appropriately usedto build mid or small system.3) The main purpose of this dissertation is to research and develop CNC System. In system software architecture,the modular design method isintroduced. And the corresponding program is designed. Every function isput into an independent module. Any changes in one module have noinfluence in other module. System has ofered the correspondingprogramme interface for users,which meets the diferent demands.4) The key technologies about open architecture of CNC systems are studied,including the curve interpolation algorithms and Frequency controlalgorithms of Stepper Servomotor,etc.Finally,the research contents of this dissertation have been summarized and theprospect of open architecture CNC systems has been opened up.
