Gearing is one of the most important mechanical transmissions. Spiral bevel and hypoid gear is widely used for its good transmission performance, especially in the automobile rear axle. To avoid the failure of involute tooth surface, reduce noise and collision, the tooth profile and addendum lines often need to be chamfered. Up to now, the chamfering has been limited to the tooth profile in mechanical manufacturing. For the chamfering of addendum lines, it is often completed by hand with wheel grinding. In this thesis, the addendum lines'chamfering for the driven gear in spiral bevel and hypoid gear transmission of automobile is studied based on the patent by Lin Hanyuan, and following works have been carried out.According to the principle of generating-forming method, the equations of face cone and blades trace of gear-cutting tool are obtained for the driven gear. Base on the coordinate transformation matrix and the combination of above equations, the equations of inside and outside addendum lines is deduced, which lays the theoretical foundation of chamfering trace. The mathematical model of addendum lines' chamfering is proposed in the continuous indexing method for the driven gear. The equations of chamfering trace are deduced, and eventually processing errors and the axial feed depth are obtained. The mathematical model of chamfering tool is proposed. The problem is transformed into constrained optimization, which can be solved by use of MATLAB optimization function to find the optimal solution of design variables. Eventually the location and radius of chamfering tool is obtained. Finally, a specific example is given. The feasibility of the theoretical method is proved through the theoretical results and the animation.
