Spiral bevel gear has higher load capacity than coniflex gear has. Furthermore, spiral bevel gear has some other advantages, such as smooth transfer motion, low sensitivity of alignment error, low noise and so on. Spiral bevel gear is widely used in drive units of some large machines, such as aircraft engine, motor vehicle, tractor, coal mining machine and so on. Chamfering the tooth crest of a spiral bevel gear can effectively relieve its stress concentration when gears are engaged, lower noise of transfer motion, extend gear's useful life and make the gear drive smoothly. Because lack of proper manufacture model, chamfering the tooth crest of spiral bevel gear is based on hand-made. So this paper studies on the tooth crest chamfering model of bull gear of spiral bevel gear pair to solve this problem. A calculation method on the process trace of chamfering is provided by studying the tooth crest chamfering model of the bull gear of spiral bevel gear pair. Then a feasible way is shown in this paper to test the calculation method.Based on the theory of chamfering the tooth crest of bull gear of spiral bevel gear pair, the kinematics model of the tooth crest chamfering machine and the model of tool's manufacture track are built. In accordance with the process principle of bull gear of spiral bevel gear pair with shaping method, a precise method of modeling bull gear of spiral bevel gear pair based on Pro/E is put forward. Then the virtual manufacture model of chamfering the tooth crest of bull gear of spiral bevel gear is built by VERICUT. Then the presented manufacture model is proved by a virtual manufacture emulation of a given bull gear of spiral bevel gear pair.
