Because of the advantages of high bearing capacity and stable transmission, spiralbevel gear was widely used in aircraft, ships, precision instrument, constructionmachinery, vehicles and other mechanical transmission system. In order to ensurework stably, avoid damaging the tooth surface, so as to reduce the noise and impact, itneeds to chamfer on tooth end and addendum. However, the addendum chamferingmachining mainly relies on grinding wheel by manual processing in domestic. It willlead to lager labor intensity, poor working conditions, low machining efficiency, andthe quality is difficult to ensure. Therefore, an automatic processing method ofrotational indexing-chamfering is put forward, and the main research work is asfollows.Firstly, with the research on cycloid machining principle, the principle ofaddendum rotational indexing-chamfering for spiral bevel gear is proposed which usespace curve to approximating theory center trajectory of grinding wheel. Throughanalyzing the moving type and motion relationship, a structure model of rotationalindexing-chamfering machine is built which is achieved by multi-axis linkage. Then,based on the principle, the generation rule of theory and actual center trajectory ofgrinding wheel are made. The mathematical model of the theory and actual centertrajectory of grinding wheel are established, and the calculation method is given. Onthis basis, the error approximation model between theory and actual center trajectoryof grinding wheel is established. Then, through analyzing the effects of eachparameter on approximation error, the parameters optimization method is put forward.And calculation software for rotational indexing-chamfering which is based on hybridprogramming with VB and MATLAB is developed. Finally, through an example ofcalculation and numerical simulation, the correctness and feasibility of the addendumrotational indexing-chamfering technology for spiral bevel gear is verified.
