Adaptable design is a new design method that gives attention to the benefit of economy and environment. The hypostasis is that it can adapt the new needs and reuse product and design. Aiming at resources saving for design and manufacturing of hydraulic presses variety, the concept of adaptable design for hydraulic press was introduced on the base of product platforms. This paper researches the methodology and technology of the construction of adaptable platform for hydraulic press. Based on the further development of CAD/CAE, the powerful adaptable design software tools was introduced, which has a range of functions, including the creation of completely parameterized product platform models, as well as the rapid implementation of customer-specific requirement based on the modifications exiting similar models. Satisfied all requirements of performance, it can also optimize the models to reduce the cost of material as soon as possible. The main contexts are as following:1) Summarizes the current research state of hydraulic press machines, adaptable design and relevant technology, and presents the research objectives, studying contents and significance.2) Studies the adaptable design principles and process on base of adaptable product platform for framed hydraulic press machine. And then, Studies the key technology for the construction of adaptable platform and build the mathematical model of the product platform optimization for framed hydraulic press machine. At last, adaptability measure is researched from adaptability and robustness.3) Establish the adaptable design platform for framed hydraulic press machine. At first, based on the characteristic of framed hydraulic press machine, the product family is planned and the formation of flexible module is proposed. And then, parameterized product models including steel plates, unit structure, module and the whole machine is established. This chapter also summarizes the structures of flexible module and builds unit structure datebase and board datebase. At last, assembly modeling technology of flexible modules based on the flexible unit structure is discussed. 4) Studies the main content of variational analysis and optimization. The steps of platform design are summarized. At last, unit structure platform and module platform are illustrated as examples.5) The rapid adatable design and analysis system based on CAD/CAE for hydraulic press machines is developed. Module coding system of hydraulic press machines for product family is established to manage modules. The structures and function of this system are introduced from three aspects: inquiry, structure design, finite element analysis and optimization.Finally, a summary of the work in this paper is given, some conclusions and assumptions for further research are involved.
