Desertification And Put-it-in-order In Wuhai City

Desertification is the degradation of arid,semi-arid and arid semi-moist land to the point of losing its capability for agricultural producting due to climate change and human activities and movements. Its occurrence has a long-term and deep socio-economic origin besides the natural environmental degradation. It is an inevitable outcome of the conflict of the relationship between the land and the people because the economic activity of the civil society violates the laws of nature.The process of desertification in Wuhai City is a typical example of the contradiction between human exploitation and nature.Wuhai City lies in the southwest of Inner Mongolia and links Shannxi,Gansu and Ningxia area as a traffic hub.The climate of here is arid,the ecosystem is vulnerable and it lies in the transition zone from grasslands to deserts, so the nomadism has been the main economic pattern for a long period .Since the reign of Emperor Tongzhi of Qing Dynasty, people all over the country have entered this place and begun to go in for different economic activities one after another,for example,coal exploitation and transportation, thus the environment was certainly destroyed by these activities.After the liberation, particularly during the Great Leap Forward Movement in 1958, the country started to carry out the large-scale development in this area.When the country implemented"the three line"construction during 1969 to 1975, here has been built many factories of war industry early or late because of the natural conditions—backing mountains and facing a river . Although these factories established the industrial base of Wuhai City , the pursue of rapid development and unreasonable construction plan brought the inestimable destruction to Wuhai's environment , which is an important reason that causes the environmental deterioration .At the end of 1950s, the activity of put-in-order with planting trees has been started in Wuhai area since the beginning of the exploitation and construction.For people did not know the natural character of this area ,the put-in-order fell far behind the speed of the sandy desertification.After the establishment fo Wuhai City, the economic construction here entered a new time with the country carrying out the reform and open policy. The Wuhai municipal government has realized profoudly the importance to coordinate the relationship of the environment and economy development when pursuing developing economy, and the government has put more attention to the desertification and adopted many measures to make the local environment obviously good.This article absorbs the existing research results, use the empirical study method of history, and analyses and expounds the influence of the human activities in different historical periods how to affect the occurrence and development of the desertification in Wuhai area. It introduces the measures that have been taken to put it in order since the reform and open .The article elaborates some own opinions to develop economy about Wuhai in the future.The article comprises the introduction, the main text and the conclusion. The main text is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduses Wuhai's natural survey; Chapter Two is the influence of human activities to the desertification in the different historical periods; Chapter Three elaborates measures to put the environment in order and its effects since the large-scale development and construction began in Wuhai area.The fourth chapter is to reconsider the sustainable development of Wuhai in the coming years.
