The forming process of the automobile covers which contains great geometry nonlinearity, touching nonlinearity and material nonlinearity is a plastic forming process with big deflection and deformation. There are many influencing factors and they are difficult to make accurate decision. Therefore, the traditional method for the stamping planning and die design depend greatly on the repetitive revising and debugging of the die which wastes large amount of time, manpower and material resources. Along with the developing of the computer science and finite element simulation technology, the CAE technology get abroad application at the automobile industry. So, automobile cover panel forming and mould design is the key technology to develop our mould industry, especially automobile.First, the characteristics of the automobile covers forming and the research advance of finite element numerical simulation theory, key technology and its numerical simulation technology are expounded systematically. The superiority of FEM is further affirmed by comparing some different analytical methods for panel forming process. The general steps of the automobile covers forming simulation are summarized, and the simpler finite element calculation workflow is presented accompanying the characteristics of the automotive B-pillar and the special sheet forming software AutoForm.Second, the structural characteristic and performance requirement of the automotive B-pillar are analyzed, the forming technology of part is made, and the first step of the drawing forming technology is chose as the research subject. The 3D solid model set up by general software CATIA is imported in AutoForm software. In the DieDesigner module, the blank holder and addendum are built, the drawbeads are arranged and the automotive B-pillar is obtained. And on the basis of all above, the drawing punch and the blank holder are obtained by migration and drawing, and the mould design for binder is finished.Test the performance of a certain steel sheet, set up the model of the new material according the testing result, and the definition of the material parameters is finished. The 3D finite element model of B-pillar is set up. AutoForm is used to simulate the forming process of B-pillar, and the process parameters of the covers are given which offers technique support for the covers practical forming.At last, the mechanism of springback and the factors those influence springback are described in detail, and the basic process of the global debarkation springback simulation of the sheet-metal are introduced. The solid model of the drawbeads is set up. The numerical simulation of the springback of global uploading process and the adjustment of process parameters control the springback effectively.
