As the swift growth of economy, great changes have taken place in human being's basic necessities. The traditional criteria for selecting strong and serviceable clothes have been impacted by the new consumption concept of advocating personalities and considering of health. The changes of consumption concept have affected many prenatal women. Born as a new generation, most of the modern feminine are well paid and possess superior aesthetic conception and cultural cultivation. The traditional loose-fitting maternity clothes cannot make them satisfied. They prefer the rationally designed and elegant maternity clothing which can conform to the hygienic standards and reflect their personality, temperament, social status and self-cultivation. What's more important, the clothing should be beneficial to keep them and their babies healthy. Therefore, the principle of"human orientation"must be implied in the design.This thesis presents a series of research concentrating on the humanized design of the maternity clothing from the perspectives of the pregnant women's mental and physical status, as well as the social environment. Meanwhile, we carry out authentic market investigation to prove its practicability. The research includes the following five aspects:1. Analyze the research background and current situation, and reveal the significance of the humanized design for maternity clothes.2. The artistic design of maternity clothes can play a role in regulating the pregnant women's special mentality.3. The pregnant women's physical needs mainly imply that their physical structure's changes have demands on the functional design of the clothes.4. Various categories of maternity clothing design occur under the special living conditions in the social environment in which the pregnant women are living.5. Carry out the market investigation and analysis based on the three features of humanized design for the maternity clothing,"elegant","protective"and"adaptable", and forecast the maternity clothing design in the future. As a special group of consumers, the pregnant feminine not only retain the youthful vigor of young people, but also possess the mature characteristics of motherhood. They are in a changeable physical and mental status of complexity. Therefore, it indicates the caring and respect for the humanity and is also the dominant development trend that the concept of"human-orientation"should be adopted into the maternity clothing design, being provided with such functions as adjusting the pregnant women's mentality, activating their interest in life and meeting their mental and physical demands.
