In order to simulate and defect the working load of the billet shear machine; a hydraulic load-simulating system with a cushion cylinder was designed to simulating the load characteristic of billet shear machine. Dynamic equations of the system were established. Modeling and dynamic simulation were carried out within Matlab/Simulink software package. The results of the simulation showed that the load characteristic of billet shear machine can be simulated accurately by this system. The effects of parameters to system catachrestic were studied in additional simulations. The main research contents of this paper are listed as follow:(1) The load characteristic of the billet shear machine was analyzed, and we decided simulating the load characteristic of the billet shear machine by using hydraulic system with cushion cylinder.(2) A simple introduction of computer simulation of hydraulic system was given. Principals and steps of hydraulic system simulation based on Simulink were also introduced.(3) Three different solutions of hydraulic load-simulating system were designed and their characteristic equations were established.(4) The simulation models of the three solutions are constructed in Simulink. The simulation results showed that the solution system with flow-controlling gate is the best solution. The results showed that the load characteristic of the solution system is very similar to the true load characteristic of the billet shear machine.(5) The hydraulic load-simulating device was designed. Hydraulic cylinder and other component of the system was designed and selected.
