Since reheating furnace is the key and energy-consuming facility in the steel-rolling production line in the iron and steel industry, the automation control degree of the reheating furnace will influence such targets as energy consumption, steel scrap rate, steel output, product quality and so on directly. This paper focus on, with the rapid development of automation technology, how to take advantages of the advance automatic control technologies and facilities to improve the basic automatic control effect and level, to ensure reheating billet quality, to realize high efficiency and energy-saving, and to reduce pollution.This paper takes the project of building the No. 2 walking beam reheating furnace at Xinjiang Bayi Steel Factory for instance. Firstly, according the technical flow of the No.2 walking beam reheating furnace, design the automatic system structure of the No.2 reheating furnace, and configure the hardware, parameter, quantity of the electrical control system part. Moreover, study on the control strategy and algorithm of the main control object of the walking beam reheating furnace. The strategy proposed in this paper does not involve any programming language based on certain control device. So it can be transplanted to any PLC system to extend application because of its reasonable universal and high reference value. At last, Due to the defects of slab temperature prediction model, RBF(Radial Basis Function)neural network are adopted to build the slab temperature prediction model. It has proved that the model presented in this paper is simple, has high accuracy and meets industry demand.Since the construction of the 1750 heating steel-rolling No.2 reheating furnace at Xinjiang Bayi Steel Factory has been put into production in June, 2007, it possesses many features, such as the accuracy stability of the controlled parameters, safety and reliability, convenient operation, and so on.
