Since reheating furnace is the key and energy-consuming facility in the steel-rolling production line in the iron and steel industry, the optimum design of the temperature of billet steels and the automation control degree of the reheating furnace will influence such targets as energy consumption , steel scrap rate , steel output , product quality and so on directly. To achieve higher efficiency with less energy and to lessen pollution as well, reheating furnace used in the steel rolling will be improved towards automation and computerized control. PCS7 has been applied in more and more industral control areas as a kind of procedure-oriented software development platform. It has advanced a sort of completely-integrated automatic sollution and can provide all kinds of automation applications with a uniform technical circumstance.Engineers or technicians can configurate and programme in the same platform for all kinds of applications and the characteristics of computerized controls can be demonstrated fully.The paper has discussed how to control reheating furnace,which is a complicated industrial system, with computers in the PCS7 platform ,and the improving project to the 2# walking beam reheating furnace in the plate rolling mill in Wuhan Iron and Steel Company has constituted its background. The paper has offered much useful advice to the analogous designs of industrial computerized process controls as well.The paper has started with the analysis to the technology of the walking beam reheating furnace ,which has covered the control elements and characteristics of the main facilities such as steel loading machine,walking beam,hydraulic system,gasification cooling system and common assistant facilities .And then on the basis of the analysis above ,the entire design of PLC programmes has been finished with S7-400 programme softwares.According to the technology and distribution characteristics of the heating furnace,the chapter 4 has configurated parts of monitered frames of the heating furnace in the WinCC circumstance,and then represented how to realize practical communication between WinCC and S7-400.The chapter 5 has analyzed the controlling strategy to control the water level of the gasitification cooling system of a specific subsegment in the reheating furnace,and then explored a more advanced specialist controlling approach.The last chapter has made a conclusion to the whole paper.
