modern design ,which uses modern finite element method and modal analysis theory, has been the modern machine design development trend. The laser cutting machine is the most important part in modern processing industry and has broad market prospects, which requires that the design of the machine is a reasonable structure and excellent dynamic and static performance. The laser cutting machine arm is the main load component of the laser cutting machine, and its static and dynamic performance directly affects the accuracy of the processing machine, so it is ensured that the machine performance must meet the needs of design requirements. This paper chooses three-dimensional modeling software Pro/E to establish the entity of the model laser cutting machine arm, and then uses Pro/E and the finite element analysis software ANSYS exchange connection, importing solid model into ANSYS and carrying on static and dynamic analysis for the arm finite element model. According to the stress and displacement cloud, which is concluded, the design strength of laser cutting machine arm has a lot surplus. The weak part of laser cutting machine is found through modal analysis and improved. Finally by using finite element analysis and optimization theory, the laser cutting machine arm design is optimized, and the best structure of the arm is got. After verification, the optimized arm meets the design requirements, saves materials and reduces the cost of production. The research method has certain engineering practicability and wide applicability, it has some model function to the similar large structure in the design and structure improvements. Its advantages and wide foregrounds are to be exhibited with deeper reaseach.
