With the finite element analysis development, it was widely applicated.It not only can shorten the period of production development efficiently, reduce the cost of production manufacture but also improve the quality and reliability of the product. So it became one of the most valid methods in solving complicate engineering problem, and the core of the process in modern engineering design.In this paper, the swaying hydraulic cutter for QC12Y-40 x 2500 from Jiangsu Forging Machine Co.Ltd was seleted, and the frame of cutter was also investigated. At first, according to simplified rulers of the model,3D model of the cutter frame was established by using Pro/E.and then based on finite element method and vibration theory, software ANSYS was applied to build the FEM model of cutter frame. Taking finite element analysis software ANSYS as the analysis tool, then the stress distribution and deform distribution of the frame were gained after static analysis; natural frequencies of the; frame were obtained through modal analysis and the effect brought by each frequency on frame modal were analyzed. On condition that the frame meets certain intension and toughness demands, by optimizing geometry size and shell thickness to reach the most minimum material for manufacture. According to the results of static analysis and the whole frame structure, the parameterized model of selecting parts of geometry size and the shell thickness was established. In terms of meeting certain intension and toughness demands, the frame volume was selected as objective variable. By using zero rank approach, the structural optimization was developed to reduce the weight. At last, by way of the secondary development of ANSYS, menus applying UIDL programs and algorithm applying APDL were studied in this paper. The software had a friendly interface, reliable and stable running and convenient to employ by combine UIDL and APDL, which provide much convenient to the analysis of cutter when it's designed or improved.The basic characteristics including static and dynamic of the frame were obtained by the research of this paper. And the weight of the frame was reduced by the optimum design. All these had provided basic theory and method of further optimum design for cutter. Meanwhile, through the secondary development of ANSYS, the software had a great significance to improve the design quality, efficiency and benefit.So the results had great value in practical application.
