With the industrial development, the reverse osmosis desalting plants are increasingly widely used. By the virtue of low run expense, no regenerative waste water drain, steady product water quality, RO has gradually substituted traditional ion-exchange technique. But the sediment of scale on RO membrane seriously affects run energy loss and RO membrane life. The the most commonly used method of this problem is add scale inhibitor to the reverse osmosis system. So it is worth developing a novel and high efficiency RO scale inhibitor.In this paper, application of the RO system, important meaning and function of RO scale inhibitor were expatiated. On the background of solving the problem of calcium carbon fouling of reverse osmosis system, an effective experimental design method, uniform design, is used to help optimize the program on the base of studying on the scale performance of six kinds of scale inhibitors referring to a mass of domestic and international document. In the optimization experiments, the proportions are independent variables and the static scale inhibition test is used for assessment of scale inhibitor. Scale inhibition performance, dispersancy and biodegradability of four kinds of different composite of environmentally friendly reverse osmosis scale inhibitors, PTP-0100 and Acumer4035 were measured. The results showed that the performances of the composite on CaCO3, CaSO4 and dispersing ferric oxide, biodegradation were better.At the present time, using the methods of circulating water scale inhibitor is insufficiency to assess the RO scale inhibitor. A laboratory technique with a totally recycle mode applied to the fast evaluation of RO antiscalant performance was developed. The antiscale performances of PTP-0100, Acumer4035 and the composite antiscalant were tested. The experimental results showed that this is a fast, simple and reliable technique for the evaluation of RO antiscalant performance. The results of experiments attest to the above-mentioned scale inhibitor well done foe controlling the fouling.Calcium carbonate and calcium sulphate crystal samples were characterized by SEM and XRD technique. The scale inhibition mechanisms were studied. The results showed that the reverse osmosis scale inhibitors could distort calcium carbonate crystallite remarkably, causing the calcium carbonate crystallite to get much finer and more dispersive.
