Nowadays, the great development has achieved in the area of domestic CAD technology, and rapid progress has been made on the study of injection molding technology and mechanism theory. However, due to the complex assembly of the injection mold and the lack of support from an efficient virtual motion system, the development circle and the enterprise's efficiency can't be shortened. Taking the designing of the injection mold as an example, and aiming at the development of a mechanism motion simulation system for injection mold which is based on UG, extended studies have been carried out on the structural and kinematics modeling of mechanisms in this paper. The system also can realize the virtual motion of the injection mold and improve the development of the virtual system for the complex assembly.First, a briefed review is given on the recent development in mold designing technology and mechanism theory. A deep analysis is conducted on the assembly model of injection mold and the function of the virtual motion in an applied modeling platform, the UG 3D CAD system. The whole simulation system is decomposed into structural and functional components.Lastly, based on the motion mechanism of the injection mold, a module for mechanism structural modeling is presented, which takes the attribute of the part as its kernel. By making use of the different attribute, it is convent to represent the component of mechanisms, such as the link and the joint. The practical application demonstrates that the system can simplify the usage and improve the design efficiency and quality greatly.
