In increasingly stinging market competition, the lead-time to market of new product has become crucial. Therefore, development and fabrication period of new product must be shortened as possible, in order to adapt modern manufacturing mode characterized by low volume, many types and swift change. Rapid Prototyping Manufacturing (RPM) and Rapid Tooling (RT) can rapidly fabricate complicated prototypes and various mould & dies of higher dimensional precision and better surface roughness respectively. With those technologies, the objective of Rapid Product Development (RPD) can be achieved consequently.SLS has been applied to the small batch production, but the rapid manufacturing technology based on SLS now is at the developing stage. Some existed problems are the surface and dimension precision of prototyping based on the theory of discrete cumulating, the poor general mechanical property for high precision and high surface quality, the dubious influence of sintering parameters. By analyzing the sintering parameters on the impact of SLS sintered samples, A combination of optimized sintering parameters has been brought forward, according to the results of orthogonal test. The practicability of the results have been proved, integrating with Plaster precision casting technology. The main contents of this paper are as follows:â‘ Introduced the SLS technology and the present states of tube inversion process.â‘¡Choosing ABS resin (acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene) materials for the trial, the specialized sample has been sintered on the AFS-320MZ laser sintering rapid prototyping machine. Through the variance by orthogonal test analysis, the influence to diameter, cylindricity, distance error in the direction of XYZ, flatness, parallelism and surface roughness have been researched, which caused by sections thickness, laser power and heating-up temperature, and according to the linear regression method, a optimization combination group of sintering parameters have been obtained.â‘¢Combined SLS with Plaster precision casting technology, the R73 EFI engine intake of aluminum alloy have been manufactured by the results of the orthogonal test.
