Coil Box is installed between roughing mill and finishing mill at the hot continue rolling product line, to be used to coil billet from roughing mill by mandrelless coiling method, so the head of the billet is placed in the coil core and the tail of the billet is placed in the coil tail, then uncoiling immediately, sending the billet to the finishing mill to roll. By using the technology of the Coil Box, it was solved the problem that influencing the quality of the product with big difference temperature between the Strip head and the strip tail for a long time. At the same time, it was also solved the problem that hot continue rolling product line is too long.So far this technology is used to reconstruct the present equipments and the new projects of rolling equipment.This paper start with the compose of Coil Box equipments and echnological requirements, analyzing control requirement of Coil Box,working mode and mathematical model in the software program that controlling Coil Box.The basic automatic system is the hardcore of the Coil Box electrical control system. The basic Automatic system of Coil Box is consisted of PLC control unit,distributed long-distance IO station,HMI monitoring system,network and corresponding control program, etc. The network of automatic system of Coil Box is consisted of Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS DP Field bus network. Industrial Ethernet network is used for communication between PLC controller, between PLC controller and HMI monitoring system. PROFIBUS DP Field bus network is used for data communication with the PLC controller, drivers and remote IO stations. For the reliability of equipments of unit, it is configured detecting elements of rolling line and equipments on the Coil Box.Because of the amount equipments and complexity of echnological requirements, the Structured programming method is used in the software of Coil Box controlling system. The program is divided different functions by the echnological requirements and controlled object. The advantage of the Structured programming method is the clarity of the program structure and consecution, and is convenient for reading, debugging and future maintenance.The HMI monitoring system realize the function of man-machine interaction, which include parameter setting, adjusting operation, running status monitoring, history trend curve display, failure display , failure logging, and so on. Monitoring system can carry out these functions by running the software in it. It has it's own HMI monitoring system on the Coil Box main electric room and the operating room, and used for monitoring the working status of the Coil Box equipments and hydraulic station and oil lubrication station.
