Laminated template electro-deposition is a new kind of manufacturing technology that employs combination of the theory of discrete piling-up and electro-deposition process. It realizes an oriented deposition in which a series of templates are attached sequentially on the cathode and serve as insulative layers to lead depositing layer by layer to the area templates limit. By this way, an accurate and solid metallic part can be produced at low cost in equipment and maintaining. This paper illustrates the working mechanism of this method and with a couple of examples feasibility for this method is proved. In light of real experimental conditions, a set-up configuration has been constructed, which is made up of several parts, deposition unit, electrode distance regulator and circulation system. Related procedures and description also have been developed. Also in this paper, programmed with professional analysis software, an experimental model is created to simulate electricity distribution. By the model, a range of dependent factors of electric field on experimental conditions, such as electrode size, how and where auxiliary cathode is applied and template thickness are respectively analyzed and some parameters including applied current, type of template material and the way templates are laminated each other are illustrated. To resolve experimental problems, measures and assistant facilities, for example, orienting pin and double-electrode configuration, have been introduced.Progress in research and related results have been made and briefly shown as below:1. A new kind of RP technology, in use of both laminated manufacturing and electro-deposition method is developed. Theoretically, it works as a totally new fabrication and offers a new research method in the ways of its kind.2. Major factors that could influence electric field distribution have been explored and technical measures capable of improving surface quality as depositing have been adopted. A group of parts can be produced synchronously when thicker templates are used.3. A bulk of parts in different shapes, with compact inside structure, high hardness and 8.4mm in thickness have been prepared. For this method, technical feasibility and advantages over other manufacturing ways are discussed and proved with experimental results.
