Nowadays, more and more emphasis is put on the environmental quality with the economic development. On the one hand, the polution of dust and smoke and waste water is getting worse. However, on the other hand, high-quality environment is of great importance in some particular fields, such as electronic manufacturing industry, pharmaceutical engineering. Either environmental protection or control needs to monitor the environment accurately and real time. Therefore, environmental monitoring has become an increasingly challenging subject and task currently.At present, the domestic environmental monitoring equipment is not of high technical level. Compared to some foreign advanced environmental monitoring equipment, it has apparent defects in the aspect of automation, continuity, reliability and real-time performance. Therefore, the domestics can not meet the quality requirement of environmental monitoring well.Firstly, this paper expounds the important impact of the environmental monitoring upon society, and the impact of environmental monitoring equipment upon the environmental monitoring quality. Based on the above statements, the development details about the domestic environmental monitoring equipment, as well as the background, target and significance of this study, are introduced. Accordingly, I decide to develop a common architecture for portable automatic continuous environmental monitoring system as the research objective.Secondly, I have independently designed the scheme of the portable environmental monitoring system according to the overall requirements. The system combines both the latest wireless sensor network and the mature embedded technology. Subsequently, this paper is focused on the development of the automatic continuous environmental monitoring system from both aspects of software and hardware, including the selection of the integrated circuits and functional models (e.g., micro printer, LCD and touch screen) and the structure of the software (e.g., Linux OS, SQLite database and MiniGUI).Thirdly, the embedded gateway in the portable automatic continuous environmental monitoring system is implemented. Also, I have already written the hardware testing program of S3C2410x under ADS1.2 integrated development environment (IDE). Then, joint debugging of the whole system proceeds, with the requirements well fulfilled.Finally, this paper explains the construction of the Linux software development platform on embedded system.
