Compared with traditional printing,digital ink-jet printing technology has incomparable advantages,including the production of environmentally friendly features, which is particularly important in the 21st century.Now the time of the ink-jet printing comes into the scale production has arrived.At present,the ink-jet printing technology mainly has two problems,slow-speed printing and high-cost ink,and other issues,these shortcomings hamper its scale applications in printing and dyeing enterprises.It is an effective way to reduce the cost of the inks for the printing and dyeing enterprises to prepare the inks for themselves.But there are also some difficulties using the way,such as the composition the inks,the methods to prepare the inks,the application technics.This paper carries the research mainly from this point,explores the chemical additives and methods to prepare the ink-jet printing inks,using the current usual reactive dyes in the printing and dyeing enterprises.Fist test the usual reactive dyes produced in different factories,on this basis,choose ink-related additives,and the brightness of the printed color,K/S value,fixation rate,as well as the ink viscosity,surface tension,fluency,stability,and other physical and chemical performances of the ink are explored.The composition and dosage of the reactive dyes and chemical additives in ink-jet printing inks are determined.After the printing experiments,the application process of self-made reactive dye inks on cotton fabrics also is explored.After reactive dyes selection in five companies,finally we identified the Huntsman Novacron P-type dyes as the suitable dyes used in ink-jet printing.For the content of reactive dyes and a variety of additives in the ink,we make a contrast with the commercial reactive dye inks,testing K/S value,fixation rate as well as absorbance of different concentrations self-made inks,basically the dye concentration of magenta, yellow,turquoise,black can be determined during 9%to 18%.From testing the action and amount of solubilizer,humectant and other additives, also testing the single additives and their interaction on the surface tension and viscosity of ink,finally,the appropriate additives amount in inks can be determined between 20% to 30%.It proves that 1,2- hexanediol not only can be used as a solvent to improve the stability of ink,but also a very good surface tension regulator;Diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol have a good moisture retention effect,at the same time,they can also adjust the viscosity of ink;Some of the polymers can improve the durability of the ink, also can prevent the fixation rate decrease during the ink storage process.This was unreported before.The self-prepared textile ink-jet printing ink is tested on the Life jet 200 flatted ink-jet printer,the test results showed that the conventional reactive printing dyes can be prepared into inks,and used in ordinary cotton fabrics printing,the printing fluency can be compared with the commercial reactive dye inks,the color can adjust using the software,ink storage can reach up to six months to meet the requirements of the production of ink-jet printing.Because of the the application features of ink-jet printing,it needs pretreatment for fabric before ink-jet printing,this paper undertakes the printing technics experiments including the pretreatment agent,like sodium alginate,sodium bicarbonate,urea,and the posttreatment steaming conditions,their influence to the printing efffect are explored. The experiments show that all the pre-treatment agents have its best dosage,the urea can increase color depth in the ink-jet printing,while there is also a reduction in fixation rate. After the influence comparetion of each condition,the pretreatment conditions are determined.The steaming is carried under 110℃and 104℃,The experiment of the posttreatment shows that the increase of temperature could reduce the steaming time to 4 to 6 minutes.This is good for synchronous operation of the ink-jet printing and steaming equipment.The experiments explore a set of reactive dye ink formulation,preparation and application methods.After accounting,the inks prepared in this experiments costs far less than the commercial inks,and it would be acceptable for printing and dyeing enterprises, so this provides a feasibility for dyeing and printing enterprises to prepare low-cost reactive dyes inks in the ink-jet printing production.
