With the water environment of Huaihe River getting worse and worse, hydrodynamics and water quality modeling technique, which is an important method to understand the situation and development trend of river environment, has been extensively applied to the protection and management of river water environment. Whereas, although a huge amount of numerical simulation work has been done on rivers, there are still not officially standardized models in China. In this paper, RMA2 model and RMA4 model, which were exploited by Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory, Waterways Experiment Station, US Army Engineer Research and Development Center, and officially recognized as standardized models in America, are introduced into the research of Huaihe River environment. This application study is helpful to the standardization of river hydrodynamics and water quality numerical simulation in China.This paper, which is in order to study the Huaihe River Water Pollution Control, has expounded the structures and functions of RMA2 and RMA4 models. Taking Huaihe River from Feng Tai County to Huai Nan for example, densifies and optimizes the mesh of the complicated distributary and conflux, carries out the simulation & analysis by RMA2&RMA4, rates the parameters of models to get the appropriate parameters of the hydrodynamic models and the water quality models.This paper also calculates the water environment capacity by attenuation coefficient decided by water quality models, and gets the result of the reduction of the volume pollutants under different rate. Finally, based on the relative water resources protection planning of Fuyang city, the paper has designed different methods for Huaihe River water environment improvement: restrictions of emissions and setting up construction wetlands system. And according to RMA2 and RMA4 models, the paper has systematically simulated the water environment improvement of different schemes in Huaihe River. Through a comparison between the different schemes, a scheme has been recommended according to both economic cost and the effects of water quality improvement. The research results of this paper provide scientific basis for making the environment protective measures of Huaihe River .
