Based on the Compton scattering theory and preliminary experiments, simulated studies on measuring the grease stain thickness in oil pipeline by using MCNP code system has been carried out in this paper. In the preliminary experiment results , Monte Carlo Computer simulation method was used to the response curve between scattering of gamma counts and grease stain thickness by three basic measuring methods. These methods are: using an iron plate to mock the pipe wall ; using two iron plates to mock the pipe wall and using an iron tube to mock the pipe wall. The results show the relation between the scattering angles and sensitivity of measurement in rectilinear irradiating under large scattering angles(>90°).Preliminary researches about the influence of the soil layer (with different water content in the soil layer) and tube wall corrosion to detect the grease stain thickness have been carried out. in this paper , their influences to the sensitivity of thickness measuring were studied and simulation results show that the regulation in measuring grease stain thickness. In conclusion of this paper we discussed the small angle scattering method usingγray irradiating by acute angle and gave some suggestions for the further work to measure the grease stain thickness by the small angle scattering method .The paper is an initial research work of testing grease stain thickness using by"the reflectiveγ-ray instrument". All above the discussion contributes experimental basis and feasible program guidance to the development of "surfaceγmeter for grease stain measurement" .
