In the actual process of high speed plane lapping, the lapping parameters are determined by the workers according to the daily experience. They can't consider the determination of the lapping parameters as a whole, so that to get the optimal lapping parameters combination. The result of this condition is that the determination of the lapping parameters is casual. So the machining accuracy of workpiece can't be guaranteed and the quality of product is unstable. Anther problem is when the workers find a optimal lapping parameters combination, they can't record it in time, so that it can serve the after processing. That is bad for accumulating the processing experience. So, to solve these problems, the computer and AI technique are used in this paper to establish an expert system in the field of high speed lapping. The expert system will choose the lapping parameters reasonable abased on some rules.Taking four materials include YG6, K9, T10 and Al2O3 as examples to illustrate the method of determining high speed lapping parameters such as eccentricity, pressure, grit size and spindle speed are discussed. To do the lapping experiment and analysis the influencing factors of the parameters.To establish the high speed lapping process parameters DB of using Microsoft Access that is based on the experiment and the daily experience. To describe the lapping technique with the production rules and establish the knowledge base. As the surface roughness of the target to create many inference rules for the inference engine. Using the forward inference method, the inference engine is established with forward link technique. Finally, the man-machine interface is designed and the programs are finished by the VC++ that is object oriented and Microsoft Access. And using the parameters the system suggested to debugging the system to make up an application program with pratical value. In the paper, a experiment about the system was taken, the results showed that the reasonable parameters for the determined workpieces can be suggested by the expert system.
