Great puzzle the human beings are facing at 21st century are energy crisis and environmental pollution.It is urgent affairs that search a new energy to substitute for oil.The advantages such as high combustion value,pollution-free,light weight and a wide range of applications of hydrogen make it to be the best new energy,which is in accordance with sustainable development.The research on hydrogen production from natural gas which is very abundant in the nature is a investigative hotspot.Methane is main constituent of natural gas.Because methane reacting condition is severe in the course of conventional conversion and there are some disadvantages of high airspeed, great energy consumed and low methane conversion on chemical industry of methane, it is becoming a global researching work which seek after a new path of methane conversion.With the development of strong electric field,it is a new path of methane unconventional conversion.An electric field is formed by strong ionized discharge in the plasma reactor with reduced electric field intensity exceeding 400 Td,average energy higher than 10 eV.These electrons with high energy can break the C—H bond in the CH4 molecule,and the active particles such as ion,free radical and atom,are formed.Then new substances are formed between the inter-collision of the active particle and other molecules.Following the international science and technology cooperation project that is the Research on Hydrogen Production from Methane Reforming via Plasma,this paper studies hydrogen production from methane by strong electric field ionization discharge at the environmental friendly conditions.At the condition of room temperature and atmospheric pressure without any catalyst,when flow of methane is 300 mL/min,methane conversion reaching up to 70%in the best.The proper addition of oxygen increasingly improves hydrogen yield, reaching up to 38%when oxygen concentration is 5%.However,the addition of hydrogen reduces the hydrogen yield and methane conversion.Hydrogen yield keeps almost the same when argon is added to the feed gas,but methane conversion falls a little.Both hydrogen yield and methane conversion fall obviously when air is added to the feed gas and fall with the feed gas flow increasing. The experiment uses the abundant natural gas resources to produce the clean, effective new energy hydrogen via strong electric field ionization discharge plasma. Hydrogen-rich gas,which can improve the internal combustion engine efficiency and can reduce pollution when applied as the fuel of engine,is achieved by this technology.Strong electric field ionization discharge provide a new technique,which has the scientific research and the economic significance...
