This Mphill dissertation presents the results of the Lewis acid catalyzed hydroamination of alkenes, TiCl4 catalyzed hydroamination of 2-methylbuta-1,3-diene and the syntheses and characterizations of two bisligand-chelated titanium and zirconium imide compounds. They are expressed in details as follows:In the first part, Lewis acid-catalyzed hydroamination of alkene is reported. The results obtained from the different catalysts are compared. The reaction mechanism is proposed and corresponding experimental results confirmed the proposed mechanism. In the second part, TiCl4-catalyzed hydroamination of 2-methylbuta-1, 3-diene is reported. The results of which led to the controllable synthesis of allylamine and tetrahydroquinoline from isoprene and aromatic amine. In the third part, the syntheses and characterization of two Titanium and Zirconium imide complexes Ti(L)2 and Zr(L)2 (L = N1 , N3-[bis(pyrrole-2-yl)methylene] diethylenetriamine) were presented.
