Wetland, an important ecosystem on earth, has an irreplaceable role in preserving and regulating ecological environment quality. It is the basic for framing measures of protection, management and utilization that establishing scientific and practical evaluation methods and indicators system to evaluate wetlands environment. Zhalong Nature Reserve is migration and breeding grounds for a wide range of rare and endangered birds, but the areas of wetlands have being reduced drastically over the years because of unreasonable development. Therefore, it has a practical significance for improving research and protection level of Zhalong Nature Reserve that conducted the assessments of wetland resources and water quality analysis to find the existing problemsIn this study, we summary the status of researches and evaluations for wetlands at domestic and abroad. Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation (FCE) was used to establish the evaluation system by choosing 21 indicators of 5 kinds of resources. From March and October, 2008, surveys and sampling determinations were conducted for wetland resources and water quality, respectively in Zhalong Wetland Nature Reserve according to "Surface Water Environmental Quality Standard" (GB3838-2002).The main conclusions were educed as below:In Zhalong Wetland Nature Reserve, wetland resources is main body of all kinds of resources (weight coefficient of FCE is 0.4045); land resources is the vital resource in reserve (weight coefficient of 0.5289); water resources is the key for biology surveying in wetlands(weight coefficient of 0.250); biological resources is management objectives of reserve(weight coefficient of 0.1293); tourism resources is becoming the objectives to be developed of reserve (weight coefficient of 0.0130).Among wetland functions of Zhalong Nature Reserve, the most prominent function is the water conservation (weight coefficient of 0.246) and flood storage (weight coefficient of 0.246), followed by the climate regulation with weight coefficient of 0.181, the weight of birds habitat with 0.116 stands third. That is often ignored by previous studies that indicate the importance of Zhalong wetlands is not only the habitat for rare birds, the ecosystem functions of wetlands is even more important.Wetland areas of Zhalong Nature Reserve (weight for weight of index 0.104) are reduced. The weight coefficient of rarity (0.053), vulnerability (0.032) and nature (0.023) are relatively weak, that reflects people's consciousness of wetland ecosystem needs to be improved and the impact of human activities is still large. So close attention should be given on wetland resources protection.Wetland and grassland are still the main body of land resources with weight coefficient of 0.288 and 0.263, respectively, but both are reduced and have the trend of transforming into the saline-alkali soil. The proportion of agricultural land (weight coefficient of 0.167) is larger in zhalong Reserve, but residents land and forest are comparatively smaller in the wetland ecosystem with weight coefficient of 0.093 and 0.029, respectively.The key factors of water resources are water volume and water supply, with weight coefficient of 0.709 and 0.213, respectively, and both of them sh批ow obvious shortage in volume. The significance of them is much greater than water quality.A plant resource (weight of 0.6667) of wetland ecosystem has a crucial role to maintaining the existence of biological communities. Animal resources are the main protection object of Wetland Reserve. However, in recent years, animal resources, especially water birds and rare fish have been decreasing in type and quantity. That situation must take our great attentions.Zhalong Wetland has rich tourism resources (weight of 0.750) with an initial travel conditions (weight of 0.250), but tourism activities must be carried out for eco-tourism, or it will bring negative impact on Reserve.The water quality of Zhalong Wetland accord with III standards of state criterion as a whole, but still was polluted heavily in separate sites. Especially, transparency, turbidity, pH value and conductivity, total alkalinity, ammonia nitrogen, TN, TP and other indicators are not as good as natural lakes that need to be improved.Contraposing the result of FCE as well as water sample analysis of Zhalong wetlands, 5 proposals are offered in this paper that managers of reserve should solve the water shortage as soon as possible and control pollution effectively, and finally create harmony between man and nature by means of strengthening scientific researches and educations.
