In this paper, one kind of petroleum sulfonate (PS) is synthesized in a falling-film sulfonation reactor. The raw materials are vaccum cutⅡand vaccum cutⅢextract oils and SO3 as sulfanation agent. The basic properties of the two marerials are studied. Via the single factor and orthogonal experiments, effects of all kinds of process parameters on yields, conversion rates and surface tensions are studied, and the synthesis conditions are optimized, finally the optimized process parameters are determined. The molecular structure of product is characterized via ultimate analysis, infrared spectrometry and NMR. Mean molecular weights of optimized products are examed via diphasic titration. Meanwhile, the activities and conponents of products are also studied. It is found that the both materials own high quantities of aromatic hydrocarbon and appropriate mean molecular weights, which means they quite suit for the synthesization of PS as materials. So far as influences on conversion rates of the products are concerned, the order of the influences on that of vaccum cutⅡproducts is similar with that of vaccum cutⅢproducts. The order in details is: acid to hydrocarbon ratio>dilution ratio>gas concentration>reaction temperature>residence time. For the influences on surface tensions, the situation of vaccum cutⅡproducts slightly differs from that of the vaccum cutⅢproducts. The specific order of vaccum cutⅡproducts is: reaction temperature>gas concentration>dilution ratio≈residence time>acid to hydrocarbon ratio, while the order of vaccum cutⅢproducts is: reaction temperature>dilution ratio>acid to hydrocarbon ratio>gas concentration>residence time. The conversion rate of the optimized product indicates that the complete conversion of aromatic hydrocarbon is basiclly successful under the optimized condition. Not only is the available content of PS in optimized products high (96.46% in products of vaccum cutⅡ, 95.47% in products of vaccum cutⅢ), but also mean molecular weight is suitable (506.4 in products of vaccum cutⅡ, 557.8 in products of vaccum cutⅢ). Furthermore, compared with the vaccum cutⅢproducts, the vaccum cutⅡproducts own better surface activity. The crude product of vaccum cutⅡhas 0.11% of CMC and 30.83 mN·m-1 of surface tension. It is proved that the both products are suitable for serving as surfactants for ERO.
