Microbial Transglutaminase(MTG;protein–glutamine–glutamyltransferase,EC 2.3.2.13) is an enzyme capable of catalyzing acyl transfer reactions by introducing covalent cross–links between proteins as well as peptides and various primary amines via intra or interε– (γ–glutamyl)lysine isodipeptide bridges. In the recent years,MTG has gained interest due to its attractive potential application in food industries, immobilization of enzymes, pharmaceutical and textile industries for its special catalytic character. Many scholars both at home and broad did large numbers of studies on MTG catalyze the grafting and cross–linking between proteins, however, most of the researchs were focused on the role of MTG catalyze the grafting and cross–linking between the same or different proteins. The establishment of a new antimicrobial way by catalytic other antimicrobial substances to graft in textiles has not appeared now.The possibility of MTG catalyze the grafting ofε–poly–L–lysine (ε–PLL) onto the wool fabrics were studied in the paper firstly, and a series of characterization, analysis and comparison about different treated wool fabrics and fiber were determined. On this basis the characterizations of graftedε–PLL that was grafted under optimal condition were researched. The main contents included theε–PLL concentration,MTG concentration, reaction temperature, reaction time, stirring rate and appropriate pretreatment on the effects of grafting. Finally, the article gave a research on antibacterial effect of theε–PLL–grafted wool fabric .The results demonstrated that poly–L–lysine could be MTG–catalyzedly grafted onto wool fibers by using determination of release of ammonia, amino acid analysis,SEM ,dyeing difference of wool fabrics after different treatments and Allworden effect. The process of MTG catalyze the grafting ofε–PLL onto the wool fabrics was stusied and obtained the optimal conditions through single–factor circulation experiment which were as follows:ε–PLL concentration 3%,MTG concentration 30%,reaction time 2h, reaction temperature 45℃, stirring rate 60r/min and appropriate pretreatment; At last, the antibacterial effect was assessed by using shake flask test. The reduction percentage of Escherichia coli and Staphyllococcus aureus by grafting got to 96.6%and 94.3%,and the reduction percentage by adsorption was relatively lower to 95.7% and 92.8%.The washing resistance by grafting was well too.The dyeing properties and other physical and mechanical properties of the grafted wool were studied. The result show that the grafted wool can be basically achieved the effect of low temperature dyeing,The corresponding mechanical properties have also been improved.
