Based on the investigation of Shenfu mining area, combined with the theory of ecosystem health, this paper established a set of evaluative index system of ecosystem health in coal mine area in view of the characteristics of ecosystem in coal mine areas. On the basis of the reference to the statistical yearbook, environmental impact assessment report, statistical communique, social development gazette, as well as bulletin about ecosystem health assessment, this text studied the track of ecosystem health level in Shenfu mining area between 2000 and 2006 and its status of ecosystem health in 2006 has been studied either.The main contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) A related theoretical analysis of ecosystem for coal mine area. Combined with the basic profiles in coal mine areas in China, this text determined the definition, structure, features and functionality of ecosystems in coal mine areas. And the health problems about ecosystems faced in coal mine areas has been analyzed.(2) Methods of ecosystem health assessment in coal mine area. The article built an initial indicator system of ecosystem health assessment in coal mine area on vigor, resilience, organization, maintenance of ecosystem services and human health. The indicator system contained 26 indicators altogether. Using analysis of principal component, the primary indexes was confined by way of quantitative screening, in which way the final evaluation index system was built. Then the final index system formed. By using the Fuzzy Mathematics Method, the model of ecosystem health assessment was created. Finally the approach for assessing ecosystem health of coal mine area, indluding index system, index weight, assessment standard and assessment modes, was brought forward.(3) Indicator weight was determined by Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and modified by Entropy Technology. Further, Fuzzy Synthetic Appraisal was used to assess the present ecosystem health of Shenfu mining area. Generally speaking the present ecosystem health of Shenfu mining area was the normal disease condition and the membership was 0.298. Of the five essential factors in indicator system, resilience, vigor, and organization were more advantageous to ecosystem health of Shenfu mining area. And the inferiority factors were maintenance of ecosystem services and human health.(4) Through the analysis of the changing tendency to Shenfu mining area every year's present situation from 2000 to 2006, it obtained: The overall condition of ecosystem health in Shenfu mining area basically improved year by year, its health index was improved from 0.574 in 2000 to 0.717 in 2006 and its state of health also rose from disease condition to normal disease condition. Through the analysis of the five factors, it can be found: The human health, vigor and resilience had bigger development potential and higher development speed.
