In recent years, fire caused by the textile burning has brought a serious threat to people’slives and property, so flame-retardant finishing for textiles has attracted the world’s attention.Thefire caused by textiles accounted for about half the total number of fire. Cotton was a kind offlammable fiber, whose limit oxygen index was only18.0, the flame-retardant finishing forcotton fabrics is particularly significant.As intumescent flame retardant, phosphazene derivatives have excellent flame retardantproperties in flame retardancy. Hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCTP), acrylamide anddiethyl phosphate were used as raw material for preparing a novel durable formaldehyde-freeflame retardant,which was used on cotton fabric. By changing the ratio of reactants, reactiontemperature and reaction time based on single factor experiments was designed to obtain theoptimal reaction conditions. The IR spectrum and31P-NMR were used to characterize thestructure of the two formaldehyde-free durable flame retardants.The flame retardant was applied in flame resistant finishing of cotton fabric. By changingthe flame retardant dosage, crosslinker dosage, baking temperature, baking time and pH on theflame resistant effect were investigated, and the flame retardant finishing procss was alsooptimized. Finally, the flame retardant of the finished fabric was tested by the verticalcombustion method, the limiting oxygen index method and whiteness test. The results showedthat: flame retardant have good fire retardant performance which can reach B2level,The limitingoxygen index up to26.4.The results of the flammability and thermal analysis of finished cottonfabrics indicated that the pyrolysis temperature obviously decreased and the residue greatlyincreased from12.01%to34.28%. The results of SEM shows flame retardant formscarbonization layer on the surface of the fabric. The formation of carbonized layer reduce the spread of fire, cut off the combustion reaction. In addition, the radial fracture finishing the fabricstrength, whiteness and washing fastness was also tested, After finishing,The applicationproperties of fabrics have little Influence.Washability of the finished fabric indicated that thefinished fabrics has good fire retardant washable,and can still reach B2level after washing12times, the flame retardant finishing of cotton fabric with a good wash fastness.
